A-Ret Gel 0.1% (Tretinoin) is used as a topical treatment for acne. Some people may also use it for fine wrinkles and its other reported cosmetic benefits in skin aging. It helps to unblock pores on the skin and promote healing and exfoliation on the outer skin layers, while also affecting skin cell growth. Its active ingredient is a topical retinoid similar to vitamin A. Some patients have used it for keratosis pilaris.

Dosage and Administration
A-Ret Gel 0.1% (Tretinoin) is a topical gel that needs to be applied to the affected area in strict compliance with the instructions provided by your doctor. Prior to application, the skin should be cleaned. It is also important to ensure that the skin is completely dry, as irritation may occur if the gel is applied to skin that is wet.

Allow a minimum of 20 minutes after washing the face before the gel is applied, and avoid washing the treated skin (or applying any cosmetic skincare products to it) for a period of at least one hour after application. Patients are sometimes directed by a doctor to apply the gel once per day, just before bed, or else once every 2 to 3 days. In some cases, a worsening of acne may occur, however, with continued treatment, patients will usually notice an improvement in symptoms.

Side effects
Application of A-Ret Gel 0.1% (Tretinoin) may cause side effects, such as:

  • Itchiness
  • Darker skin
  • Skin lightening
  • Peeling or irritation of the skin
  • Worsening of acne at the start of treatment

A doctor should be informed if any side effects occur and are bothersome. If you experience any severe side effects, seek medical treatment immediately.

Precautions
You should avoid any unnecessary skin exposure to sunlight while using this gel.

Do not allow any of the gel to get into the mouth, eyes, nose or any other sensitive areas of the body, and ensure that it is not applied to broken or damaged skin.

Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.
